Water Labyrinth Location + Togepi Egg Guide (Pokémon FRLG)

The Gentleman NPC at the Water Labyrinth (Pokémon FireRed)

The Water Labyrinth is a small water route located directly northwest of Five Island in the Sevii Islands. To enter and navigate the Labyrinth you’ll just need to have Surf.

At the end of the Labyrinth, a Gentleman NPC is waiting to give you a Togepi Egg if the first Pokémon in your party has maximum friendship (and if there’s an open spot in your party).

Prerequisites

Since the Water Labyrinth is located north of Five Island, there are a few things you must do to reach it. The prerequisites are:

Once you have the Rainbow Pass and can sail to Five Island, you’re all set to take on the Water Labyrinth!

Reaching Five Island

The first step to finding the Water Labyrinth is to get the Rainbow Pass from Celio. After you defeat the Elite Four and catch 60 Pokémon to get the National Dex from Professor Oak, you can sail to One Island and talk to Celio.

Celio will send you out to find the Ruby and once you bring it back to him, he’ll reward you with the Rainbow Pass.

You can then use this Rainbow Pass to sail to any of the Sevii Islands, including Five Island.

Navigating the Water Labyrinth

After arriving on Five Island, I highly recommend dropping one Pokémon off in the Pokémon Center so that you have free space in your Party for the Togepi Egg waiting for you at the end of the Labyrinth.

Once you’re ready, you can walk to the north side of the island (left of the Pokecenter) and use Surf on the water.

Surf straight north from Five Island (also technically the entrance of the Water Labyrinth) until you reach a sort of “corner” made out of the rocks.

This is almost a fork in the water where you can sail north or west.

Sail west from here.

Continue sailing west, hugging the north wall as much as you can.

There will be holes in the rocks that would allow you to sail south, but these paths will lead to dead ends.

So just keep sailing west while hugging the northern rocks as much as you can.

Eventually you’ll come across another fork in the water.

One path will continue west, while the other will head south.

This time, we want to take the southern path.

As you sail south down this path, you will need to wind your way around a few rocks so that you can start sailing west again.

After that last turn, you will approach a small island with an Elderly Gentleman waiting for you.

You can talk to him if you want a brand new Togepi Egg!

The Togepi Egg

The Gentleman at the end of the Water Labyrinth will only give you the Togepi egg if you have a free spot in your Party, and if the first Pokémon in your Party has the maximum friendship level (You can check this stat at the Friendship Checker NPC in Pallet Town, which is your rival’s sister).

Your Starter Pokémon likely has the max friendship level at this point, so if you’re unsure then you can put them first in your Party.

If you have the open space and a Pokémon with max friendship, then the Gentleman will give you a brand new Togepi Egg to take care of!

A jack of all trades when it comes to gaming. I can sit down for hours in a casual playthrough of Pokémon, or I can spend months trying to hit Diamond in League of Legends. I love and appreciate everything about games, and love sharing that passion with my readers.
