TM52 Focus Blast is one of the TMs that is only available for sale at the 5th floor of the Goldenrod Department Store. It costs 5,500 Pokédollars, and you can get as many copies as you want if you have the money for them.
Finding TM52 Focus Blast
The Goldenrod Department Store is just northeast of Goldenrod City’s south entrance.
It’s to the right of Goldenrod City’s Pokémon Center, just across the street.
Head inside the Goldenrod Department Store. Then, take the escalators or the elevator to the 5th floor (5F).
- If you are taking the elevator, simply talk to the NPC attendant and select “5F” from the menu.
- If you will be using the escalators, take the upward escalators on each floor until you see a green sign with a number 5 beside the floor’s elevator entrance.
You should see a single counter directly to the right of the escalators and the elevator exit.
Speak to the NPC behind the counter to bring up the menu for the TMs they have available for sale.
The TM for Focus Blast will not be shown by name. It will be displayed as “TM52”.
Using Focus Blast
Focus Blast Move Details | |
---|---|
Type | Fighting |
Category | Special |
Power | 120 |
Accuracy | 70 |
PP | 5 |
Focus Blast is a Fighting-type special attack move with 120 base power.
It also has a 10% chance that it will reduce the opponent’s Special Defense by 1 stage when it hits successfully.
Focus Blast has great base power and its Fighting typing will help Special Attackers cover many weaknesses. But its abysmal accuracy and low PP count may turn you off from using it.
Its accuracy cannot be guaranteed by weather, unlike moves like Blizzard and Thunder which also have 70 accuracy. But PP Ups can be used to increase its PP count to a maximum of 8.
Despite these cons, Focus Blast might still be a worthwhile option for the following reasons:
-
Fighting-type moves can hit 5 types super effectively in total. This is matched only by Ground.
This coverage can be made up for by a combination of other types, but this is wide coverage that can be offered by a single move. Plus, when paired with a Ghost-type move, you will be able to hit nearly every type combination for neutral damage. Since so many Special Attackers can also learn Shadow Ball, it’s likely that you will be able to take advantage of the Fighting-Ghost combo.
-
Fighting-type special attack moves are rare to find. Your only other options are Aura Sphere and Vacuum Wave, but they can only be learned by a small number of Pokémon species.
On the off chance that you can choose between Focus Blast and Aura Sphere, Aura Sphere will always be the way to go because of its high base power and perfect accuracy. Vacuum Wave is a low-power priority move like Quick Attack, so it will be a matter of what kind of move your party needs more.
