There are 3 Choice items in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire:
- Choice Band
- Choice Scarf
- Choice Specs
All Choice Items can be purchased from the exchange shops inside the Battle Maison, and they each cost 48 BP. You can find this battle facility at the Battle Resort.
But before you can access the Battle Resort you need to finish the Delta Episode in the post-game.
Getting the Choice Items
You can purchase the Choice Items from the Exchange Service Corner in the Battle Maison.
When you get to the second floor of this facility, you’ll find two of these exchange shops on either side – the shop on your right sells the Choice Items for 48 BP each.
The Battle Maison is found at the Battle Resort. After finishing the Delta Episode, Norman will give you an S.S. Ticket. This key item allows you to travel to the Battle Resort aboard the S.S. Tidal from the ports of Slateport City or Lilycove City.
Note: After visiting the Battle Resort for the first time you’ll unlock this location on the map, so you can fly to it in the future.
Getting to the Battle Maison
Here’s how to get to the Battle Maison:
Step 1: From the Pokémon Center, go right and take the stairs heading north.
Step 2: You’ll find the Battle Maison directly ahead as a bright yellow building. Go inside.
Step 3: Inside, take the stairs on the right heading to the second floor.
You’ll find the Exchange Service Corner here (pictured below) with all the Choice Items in stock.
Obtaining BP for the Choice Items
You can purchase each Choice Item for 48 BP.
To collect BP, take part in battle challenges in the arena of Battle Maison. You’ll find the entrance between the two shops, past the red curtains.
In the arena, speak to the receptionist to your right to begin a battle challenge.
Tip: The fastest way to farm BP is by picking Single Battle as your battle format.
In Single Battles, the first ten battles yield 1 BP for each trainer you beat. After that, you will get 2 BP with each victory.
On your 20th and final battle, you will fight against a Battle Chatelaine – one of the leaders of the Battle Maison.
They are stronger than regular trainers, but winning against them will give you 20 BP.
Completing this challenge will get you exactly 48 BP.
How the Choice Items Work
Choice Band
The Choice Band is a held item that increases the holder’s Attack stat by 50%, but will only allow the Pokémon to use the first move selected in battle.
For example:
Imagine a Bagon holding a Choice Band uses the move Dragon Claw in the first turn. In the next turn, selecting other moves besides Dragon Claw will not be allowed – and this lasts for the rest of the battle unless switched out.
Despite this drawback, the Choice Band’s Attack stat boost is valuable in battle. One of the best Choice Band users in Gen VI is Azumarill with the Aqua Jet move.
Azumarill gains a significant Attack power boost with the Choice Band in addition to STAB when using Aqua Jet.
Choice Scarf
When held by a Pokémon, the Choice Scarf increases the holder’s Speed stat by 50%. But the Pokémon can only use the first move selected until withdrawn from battle.
A Pokémon that can benefit well from a Choice Scarf is Tyranitar with the move Pursuit. This Dark/Ground Pokémon already has high defense stats and resistances but is low in Speed.
With the Choice Scarf covering its weakest stat, it can use Pursuit as its sole attacking move to trap its target.
Choice Specs
The Choice Specs is a held item that boosts its holder’s Special Attack by 50%. But just like other Choice Items, the holder is limited to only the first attack it uses until withdrawn from battle.
One of the best Choice Specs users is Jolteon with the move Volt Switch.
Generally used for offense, the Choice Specs allows Jolteon to have a boosted Special Attack in addition to STAB damage when using Volt Switch – and this gives you a free switch out to avoid the move lock-in effect.
