Elite Four Rematch Guide (Pokémon ORAS)

Outside the Elite Four in Pokémon Omega Ruby

After finishing the Delta Episode, you’ll have the opportunity to challenge the Elite Four and Champion once again.

But their Pokémon are now 20 levels higher, and they now have a new and improved team, which includes a combination of both their original team and new Pokémon from other regions.

To top it off, each of their ace Pokémon can now use Mega Evolution!

Preparing for Pokémon League Rematches

Inside the Pokémon League / Pokémon ORAS
Inside the Pokémon League

Keep in mind that the rules are the same as the last time you were here. You’ll have to face the Elite Four and Champion one after another.

While you can use items to heal between fights before progressing to the next room, turning back and returning to the Pokémon Center in the middle of the challenge is not allowed.

If you lose any of these battles, you’ll have to start again and fight the Elite Four all over again.

Tips Before the Rematch

Before starting the challenge, make sure you’re fully prepared to take on the Elite Four. Here’s what you should do first:

  • Level Up Your Team. With the Elite Four’s Pokémon ranging between levels 70-79, it would be beneficial to bring a team of Pokémon with similar or higher levels.
  • Bring Along a Diverse Team. The Elite Four and Champion’s teams are now more varied, especially with what dual-types they use. Having a wide variety of Pokémon yourself will allow you to handle any Pokémon they will use against you.
  • Finalize the Team’s Held Items and Movesets. Before starting the challenge, it’s important to let your teammates hold useful items and learn new moves that might be useful in the upcoming battles.
  • Stock Up on Revives, Full Restores, and Full Heals. Just like before, they’re essential for keeping your Pokémon healthy between all five battles. You can buy healing items from the clerk located on the right side of the Pokémon League lobby.

Tips After Every Battle

After every battle, take the time to prepare your team before proceeding to challenge the next trainer. Here’s what you should do after every victory against an Elite Four member:

  • Heal up and Revive your Party. Don’t forget to revive any fainted members of your party and use healing items to restore their HP back to maximum. Use Full Heals if necessary to cure any remaining status conditions, and restore moves’ PP with Ether and Elixir if needed.
  • Change your Pokémon’s Moveset. Learn new TMs that could be useful against your upcoming opponent’s team.
  • Equip New Items or Berries. Change your held items if you need to. Moreover, if you used consumable held items and/or berries in the previous battle, equip new ones to replace them.
  • Switch your Lead Pokémon. Finally, rearrange your party order to ensure your first Pokémon has a favorable matchup against Steven’s lead Pokémon.

Sidney (Tips and Strategies)

Rematch with Sidney
  • Use Fairy-type Moves. Among all the weaknesses of Dark-types, Fairy is the only type that remains unresisted by any of Sidney’s Pokémon. However, watch out for Scrafty and Sharpedo’s Poison Jab, a threat to Fairy-types.
  • Boost Defense or Use Reflect. Sidney’s Pokémon still primarily use physical moves. Utilize defense-boosting moves or Pokémon with a high Defense stat to reduce incoming damage. Only Sidney’s Zoroark has Special moves.
  • Prepare for Mega Absol. Mega Absol’s Magic Bounce ability makes it immune to most status moves that target it, and then it will reflect those moves to the original user. Don’t bother trying to induce sleep or lower its stats. Though powerful, Mega Absol falls fast to a strong super-effective move.

Phoebe (Tips and Strategies)

Rematch with Phoebe / Pokémon ORAS
Rematch with Phoebe
  • Bring Non-Ghost Type Pokémon with Ghost-type Moves. Just like last time, all but one of Phoebe’s Pokémon are weak to Ghost-type moves. But since Ghost is weak to itself, utilizing Pokémon of other types that can learn Ghost-type moves is still a good idea.
  • Let Your Pokémon Hold Lum Berries. Phoebe’s strategy once again relies on inflicting Burn, Paralysis, or Poison to cripple foes. Then, she uses the move Hex, which doubles its damage against foes with status conditions. Equipping a Lum Berry will automatically cure these status conditions, countering her strategy.
  • Prepare for Mega Sableye. Mega Sableye is a sturdy defensive Pokémon that can still reliably deal damage with Foul Play. It’s Phoebe’s only Pokémon that isn’t weak to Ghost-types. Using powerful special Fairy-type moves like Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam will make it easy to take down.

Glacia (Tips and Strategies)

  • Use Rock-type Moves. Fire, Fighting, and Steel-type moves still work well against most of Glacia’s Pokémon, but Rock-type moves are effective against her entire team. Using moves like Rock Slide or Stone Edge could provide a significant advantage.
  • Change the Weather. Glacia’s lead Pokémon, Abomasnow, automatically sets up hail, which boosts the accuracy of Blizzard to 100% and triggers most of her team’s hail-dependent abilities. To combat this, have your Pokémon replace the weather by using moves like Sandstorm or Sunny Day.
  • Prepare for Mega Glalie. Mega Glalie has improved offensive stats and can seriously cause problems for your team. It uses the priority move, Ice Shard and Freeze-Dry, which inflicts super effective damage on Water-types. However, it’s still relatively easy to take down as its defenses haven’t improved at all.

Drake (Tips and Strategies)

Rematch with Drake / Pokémon ORAS

  • Use Ice-type Moves. Half of Drake’s team is 4x weak to Ice-type moves, which makes it ideal to bring a Pokemon with Blizzard or Ice Beam. Dragon and Fairy-type moves are also still effective against Drake’s team. However, be careful when using Dragon types due to their self-weakness. Additionally, consider Dragalge, which can pose a threat to Fairy-types.
  • Know Your Enemy’s Moveset. Drake’s updated team has a diverse offensive moveset featuring powerful attacks of various types. Due to his broad coverage moves, check if any of his moves can deal super effective damage against your Pokémon to prevent yourself from being caught off-guard.
  • Prepare for Mega Salamence. This Mega-evolved pseudo-legendary Pokémon brings a serious challenge via its offensive moveset and extremely high base stat total. To defeat Mega Salamence, prevent it from using super-effective moves against you and use your own super-effective moves. Defensive Tanks can also wall Salamence effectively.

Steven (Tips and Strategies)

  • Prepare a Variety of Super Effective Moves. Because Steven doesn’t specialize in a single type, each member of his team is vulnerable to different types. For a list of weaknesses for each of his team members, refer to the table above.
  • Remove Dual Screens with Defog or Brick Break. Similar to Drake, Steven adopts an offensive strategy, but his Claydol might set up Dual Screens using Light Screen and Reflect—moves which cut the special and physical damage in half respectively. Remove these screens with Defog or Brick Break. If left unattended, Steven’s team could wreak havoc on your team, while only taking half of the damage.
  • Prepare for Mega Metagross. Steven will yet again use Mega Metagross. Ensure your Pokémon’s levels are high enough to handle Mega Metagross and avoid it sweeping your team. To deal with it, use a strong Dark, Fire, Ghost, or Ground-type move from one of your Mega-Evolved Pokémon.

Rematch Rewards

Receiving the Metagrossite

For defeating every single member of the Elite Four and Steven, you’ll receive a grand total of P 62,840.

After your first win against Steven he will also give you Metagross’ Mega Stone, Metagrossite. Then after Steven inducts your current team in the Hall of Fame, the game is saved automatically and the credits will roll one more time.
