How To Get TM70 Flash in Pokémon ORAS

Electrode using Flash in battle (Pokémon Omega Ruby)

You can obtain TM70 Flash by talking to a Hiker NPC inside Granite Cave, which is located northwest of Dewford Town. You’ll be able to access this NPC immediately after reaching Dewford Town.

In battle, Flash is a non-damaging Normal-type move that lowers the target’s Accuracy by one stage. Reducing a Pokémon’s Accuracy makes it easier for them to miss an attack.

Flash isn’t a move worth considering when it comes to battles. Its effect can easily be countered by switching out. It’s a move that’s only ever used outside of battle to make exploring dark caves easier.

TM70 Flash Location (Step-by-Step)

You can enter Granite Cave through its entrance on Route 106, which is northwest of Dewford Town.

In the cave, you can deliver the letter entrusted to you by Mr. Stone of the Devon Corporation to Steven in the northernmost room of the cave’s ground floor. Initially, a group of Ruin Maniacs will block the entrance to that room unless you’ve obtained the Knuckle Badge from Brawly.

To obtain TM70, you won’t need the Knuckle Badge at all. You only need access to Granite Cave, which you can visit as soon as you reach Dewford Town for the first time.

You’ll eventually find a Hiker NPC when you explore Granite Cave. If you talk to him, he will give you TM70 Flash.

If you’re ready, start from outside of Dewford Town’s Pokémon Center.

Step 1: Make your way to Route 106 by heading north of the Pokémon Center.

Flash is a Normal-type Status move that lowers the target’s Accuracy by one stage.

Like any other main stat, a Pokémon’s Accuracy can be raised and lowered up to six times. Here’s how much each use of Flash modifies the target’s chance to land an attack:

Stage Accuracy
0 x 1
-1 x 0.75
-2 x 0.6
-3 x 0.5
-4 x 0.428
-5 x 0.375
-6 x 0.33

In battles, Flash is a completely useless move. You’re essentially just wasting your turn doing nothing by trying to make your opponent miss.

Even if you manage to lower your opponent’s Accuracy significantly, your opponent can quickly clear the stat changes if they switch out.

Using Flash Outside of Battle

Flash is slightly more useful outside of battle.

In certain caves, you’ll sometimes encounter dimly lit areas. You can use Flash to light up these areas, making it easier to explore.

Tip: Unlike in some previous Pokémon generations, the dimly lit parts of the caves in ORAS are still somewhat visible, which makes Flash slightly less essential for a typical playthrough.

To use Flash outside of battle, go to your party and find the Pokémon that knows the TM. From there, click “Use A Move” and choose Flash. It’s just like how you would use any other regular HM.
