You can grab an unlimited number of White Herbs at the Battle Frontier. Each Herb costs 32 BP (Battle Points).

Though you can also obtain White Herbs by using a level 41-61 Pokémon with the Pickup Ability in battles. Pickup has a 10% chance of activating after each battle, and a 1% chance of resulting in a White Herb.

Both methods take a ton of dedication, with neither being particularly faster or easier than the other.

Acquiring White Herbs

Method 1: The Battle Frontier

You can acquire an unlimited number of White Herbs by purchasing them from the Battle Frontier’s item seller.

The Battle Frontier opens up only after you’ve defeated the Pokémon League and entered the Hall of Fame. Afterwards, you can take a ship from the Snowpoint City docks to reach the Battle Zone.

You’ll find the Battle Frontier to the northeast of the Pokémon Center in the Battle Zone’s Fight Area.

After entering the building, cut through the Entrance Hall and exit via the door to the north.

In the middle of the Main Hall will be several kiosks making up a central marketplace. This is the Exchange Service Corner.

Each White Herb costs 32 BP (Battle Points), which you will earn by fighting in the Battle Frontier’s five battle facilities.

BP are awarded in tiny amounts until you start tallying victories in long consecutive streaks. Therefore, this method takes quite a bit of strategy and dedication.

Since the White Herb is (in most cases) a single-use item, you might want to make sure you have a clear strategy in mind before spending such a large number of BP purchasing one.

Method 2: The Pickup Ability

You can also get an unlimited number of White Herbs by using a Pokémon with the Pickup Ability. The Pokémon must be between the levels 41 and 61 for this method to work.

The following Pokémon can be found with the Pickup Ability in Pokémon Platinum:

  • Meowth
  • Aipom
  • Teddiursa
  • Phanpy
  • Zigzagoon
  • Linoone
  • Pachirisu
  • Ambipom

Pickup grants the user a 10% chance of finding various items after every battle.

Different items have different odds of being obtained through Pickup. The chance of finding each item depends on the level of the Pokémon and the rarity of the item.

A level 41-61 Pokémon has about a 1% chance of acquiring a White Herb after a battle.

After the initial 10% probability of Pickup resulting in a new item, this places your odds of picking up a White Herb at 0.1% per encounter—approximately once out of every thousand battles.

This method can take an absurdly long time because of its low success rate. However, you can increase your chances of finding White Herbs by having more than one Pickup user in your party.

A Pokémon does not need to take part in a battle to activate the Pickup Ability. In fact, it doesn’t even need to be conscious. So you can boost your odds of getting a White Herb after every battle by up to six times just by having Pickup users of the appropriate levels in your party.

Keep in mind that there are no alerts when a Pokémon successfully picks up an item; you will need to check your Pokémon menu every so often to find out.

White Herb Details and Uses

The White Herb is a held item that automatically resets the holder’s lowered stats in battle. The Herb is then consumed and permanently lost.

For all the trouble it takes to get a single White Herb, this is not an item you’ll want to use throughout most of the game.

However, in the Battle Frontier (and in versus battles) the White Herb is only consumed until the match is over, and then it gets returned to you. This makes it a far more valuable item when trying to rack up Battle Points.

For instance, Draco Meteor and Overheat are both excellent moves to use with a White Herb in the Battle Frontier.

Draco Meteor and Overheat are extraordinarily powerful attacks, but they both lower the user’s Special Attack stat by a crippling two stages after each use.

If the user is holding a White Herb, however, the stat decrease is nullified.

This allows the user a second Draco Meteor/Overheat that’s just as powerful as the first, which is a huge asset in many Battle Frontier battles.
