TM16 Pay Day is located on a platform in the water on Route 12. It can be found on a small platform just outside a gate connector building at the top of Route 12. The easiest way to reach this TM is by heading south from Lavender Town.
Note that you’ll need a Pokémon that knows HM03 Surf to reach the platform where TM16 is located. You’ll also need to defeat Fuchsia City Gym Leader Koga and get the Soulbadge to use Surf outside of battle.
Prerequisites
This is what you need to do before you can get TM16:
- Obtain the Soulbadge by defeating Koga in Fuschia City
- Obtain HM03 Surf from the man in the secret house of the Safari Zone in Fuschia City
- Have a Pokémon in your party that knows Surf
Getting TM16 Pay Day
Starting from the Lavender Town Pokémon Center, head southwest until you reach the southwest corner of Lavender Town.
Once you’ve reached the corner, head east until you’re in between two large rocks that lead onto Route 12.
Once you’re between the rocks, head south through the gap onto Route 12.
Follow the path until you’re in front of a giant building. Enter the building.
Once inside, walk south and exit the building.
Then walk along the path until you’re next to a fisherman trainer NPC on your right.
At this point, there should be a small platform across from you with a Pokéball on it. Use a Pokémon that knows Surf to reach the platform.
The Pokéball on the platform that contains TM16.
Pay Day Details + Uses
Pay Day Move Details | |
---|---|
Type | Normal |
Power | 40 |
Accuracy | 100% |
PP | 20 (max. 32) |
Effect | Generates money that the player collects at the end of the battle. The amount of money collected depends on the level of the user and the amount of times the move is used. |
At 40 power and with no in battle effects, Pay Day isn’t a great move for winning any battles. However, the major appeal of Pay Day is that it generates money.
If Pay Day successfully hits an opposing Pokémon, then “coins scatter everywhere” and the move generates money.
Pay Day generates money equal to the user’s level times two. For example: If a level 20 Pokémon uses Pay Day, it will generate 40 Pokédollars every time Pay Day successfully hits an opposing Pokémon.
If an opposing Pokémon uses Pay Day, the player will collect the money generated by that Pokémon as well.
However, Pay Day will not generate money if:
- The move misses
- The move is used on a Ghost type Pokémon
- Or if the move breaks a Substitute
If you’re in need of some quick Pokédollars during your playthrough then consider teaching Pay Day to one of your Pokémon.
