TM41 is given to you by a man in Celadon City. He can be found just west of the Celadon Game Corner, but you’ll need a Pokémon that knows HM03 Surf to reach him.

So you can get TM41 at any point after getting HM03 Surf and after winning the Soulbadge.

Prerequisites

This is what you need to do before you can get TM41:

  1. Obtain the Soulbadge by defeating Koga in Fuschia City
  2. Obtain HM03 Surf from the man in the secret house of the Safari Zone in Fuschia City
  3. Have a Pokémon in your party that knows Surf

Softboiled Details + Uses

Softboiled Move Details
Type Normal
Power 0
Accuracy 100%
PP 10 (max. 16)
Effect Heals up to half of the user’s Max HP.

Softboiled’s in-battle effect is identical to that of Recover.

And much like Recover, Softboiled makes for a pretty good healing move.

However, the biggest downside of Softboiled is that it can only be taught to Chansey (and technically also Mew).

Only being able to teach Softboiled to effectively one Pokémon (not to mention a very rare one) heavily restricts the TM’s usage.

That being said, if you happen to have a Chansey in your party, then Softboiled is a must teach move.

Outside of Battle Use

Outside of battle, Softboiled can be used to transfer a portion of the user’s health to another Pokémon on your team. Specifically, it transfers 20% of the user’s max HP.

However, Softboiled won’t work outside of battle if the user’s health drops below 20%.

The outside of battle effect of Softboiled is what gives it the edge over Recover.

It offers healing abilities for not just the user, but for your other Pokémon as well.

If you’re not using Chansey in battle then you can use Softboiled to have it heal the other Pokémon on your team who are battling. Considering that Chansey has a high HP stat, it’ll have a lot of HP to give your other Pokémon.
