How To Check Friendship in Pokémon Crystal

Outside the friendship rater's house in Goldenrod City

The only way to check a Pokémon’s Friendship is by consulting a Friendship Rater NPC. There are two Friendship Raters in the game – both are located somewhere in Goldenrod City, but one of them will only show up on Sundays.

  • Friendship Checker #1 (Available 24/7): Inside a small house in the eastern part of Goldenrod City.
  • Friendship Checker #2 (Available Sundays): Behind the counter in the Goldenrod Dept. Store, 5F.

Friendship Raters will never give you a specific numeric value for your Pokémon’s happiness. Instead, they’ll make a qualitative comment such as “It looks happy.” Further in this guide we’ll provide a table to translate their comments into numeric friendship values.

Tip: For more information on Friendship check out our full guide to the Happiness mechanic in Pokémon Crystal.

Goldenrod Friendship Rater (Always Available)

The main Friendship Rater can be found in a small house on the eastern side of the main road in Goldenrod City.

Here’s how to get there:

From the Pokémon Center, get on the main road and go north. Then turn right before reaching the railroad tracks.
