# | Location | Repeatable? |
1 | Cherrygrove City. Use Surf to explore the water west of town and talk to a man standing on an island. | No |
2 | Ruins of Alph (Union Cave side). Look for it in a hidden room in the bottom-left puzzle chamber. A Water Stone is required. | No |
You can get a Mystic Water in two different locations:
First by talking to a man on a tiny island west of Cherrygrove City. Surf is required to reach him.
Alternatively, you can find Mystic Water in the hidden room of the bottom-left puzzle chamber at the Ruins of Alph, accessible from the Union Cave. You’ll need a Water Stone to open the hidden room.
Prerequisites
Your Pokémon must use Surf outside of battle to reach the Mystic Water at Cherrygrove City.
To do that, you must:
- Get HM03 Surf at the Ecruteak Dance Theater.
- Defeat Gym Leader Morty at Ecruteak City.
- Teach HM03 to a compatible Pokémon.
Getting Mystic Waters
Method #1: Surf at Cherrygrove City
Start at Cherrygrove City’s Pokémon Center and head west.
Use Surf to enter the water as soon as you reach the coast, then go south.
You’ll find the man we’re looking for standing on a small rock formation in the middle of the water, just a few paces down from where we entered the water.
Talk to him to get the Mystic Water.
Method #2: Hidden Room at Ruins of Alph (Union Cave side)
Union Cave has entrances on Routes 32 and 33, but it’s easier to reach the puzzle chamber from the southern entrance (Route 33).
This entrance is located east of Azalea Town.
Once inside, follow the only available road north, then west.
Keep going westward until you hit a wall, then go up the nearby stairs. You’ll find a ladder leading down to the basement further north.
Climb down the ladder, then go into the water to the northeast.
Turn right and follow the water. You’ll find more dry land to the north.
Follow this road until you come across a fork. Go down.
You’ll have to use Strength to remove a boulder on your way outside.
Finally, jump down a ledge to the left to reach the bottom-left puzzle chamber.
You’ll need a Water Stone to reveal the hidden room.
Tip: You can get an easy Water Stone from Bill’s Grandfather at the Sea Cottage northeast of Cerulean City in Kanto. You just have to show him a Staryu.
Once you have it, approach the wall at the back of the room. Look for the Water Stone in your Bag and “Use” it.
When done correctly, a passage will open on the northern wall, leading to the hidden room.
Pick up the bottom-right item to get Mystic Water
Mystic Water Uses
Mystic Water is a held item that increases the Power of Water-type moves by 10%.
It’s ideal for strong Water-type Pokémon like Feraligatr, Kingler, Starmie, or Suicune.
Some of the best moves to pair with Mystic Water are Hydro Pump, Kingler’s signature Crabhammer, or the classic Surf.
