The Poké Seer NPC can tell you when, where, and at what level your Pokémon were caught. This is the only way to check this information in Pokémon Crystal.
You can find her house in northern Cianwood City and talk to her if you can’t remember how you met your favorite Pokémon.
But is this information practical? In one way yes, because leveling up where you first met a Pokémon will double your Friendship gains. This information can be invaluable if you’re trying to increase your Pokémon’s Friendship.
Finding the Poké Seer
Go north from the Pokémon Center in Cianwood City.

Start following the coastline when you reach the water.

Then continue northward along the coastline until you reach the last house on the island, surrounded by smashable rocks.

Inside, you’ll find the old lady known as the Poké Seer.

Using the Poké Seer’s Information
Knowing when, where, and at what level you met your favorite Pokémon isn’t just for fun. It can also help you raise their Friendship level faster!
Friendship rises by a certain amount whenever you level up, but this number is doubled if your Pokémon levels up at the same location where you caught it.
Note: As your Pokémon’s Friendship level rises, they’ll get diminishing returns from all sources of Friendship. This happens after Friendship levels 100 and 200.
Raising Friendship by Leveling Up | |||
---|---|---|---|
Action | Effect on Friendship | ||
0-99 | 100-199 | 200-255 | |
Level Up | +5 | +3 | +2 |
Level Up at Met Location | +10 | +6 | +4 |
The best way to use this mechanic is to level up a few times whenever you catch a Pokémon.
Still, most people don’t have time for that right away.
The Poké Seer lets you discover where any Pokémon you’ve stored in Bill’s PC throughout your adventure was caught. That way you can go there to get a head start on raising their Friendship.
