Gym Puzzle Solution

In Erika’s Gym, no matter what route you take to get to her, you will need HM01 Cut.

You’ll definitely have the HM by the time you reach Celadon, but make sure you have a Pokémon in your party that knows the move.

There are a few different paths towards Erika when you enter the Celadon Gym.

You’ll have to face a few trainers no matter which path you choose.

The paths of least resistance lie on the left and right side. So if you want to face the fewest number of trainers before taking on Erika, head to one of these sides.

If you follow this path you’ll only need to face two trainers before taking on Erika.

Otherwise if you want to grind some more XP, feel free to fight every trainer in Erika’s Gym!

Tips for Beating Erika

  • Your party should be about Level 30. Erika’s party is no joke, and her strongest Pokémon, Victreebel and Vileplume, are both Level 29. So to keep up, I’d recommend bringing a party that is just as strong. She only has 3 Pokémon total, so you could get away with level 27s, especially if you have types that are strong against Grass and Poison, but I wouldn’t go much lower than that. There are plenty of trainers in Erika’s Gym to defeat for some extra Levels.
  • Many Pokémon counter Erika’s party. At this point in the game, there have been plenty of Bug and Flying type Pokémon that can learn moves to absolutely decimate Erika’s Grass type Pokémon. There are even a couple of Poison types. Of course, if Charmander was your starter Pokémon the fight should be pretty easy.
  • Stop by the Game Corner for the Flamethrower TM. If you feel like gambling, you can also pick up the TM for Flamethrower from the Game Corner. Fire is one of the main weaknesses of Erika’s Grass Type Pokémon, so this TM will be very useful if you have a Fire Type Pokémon that can learn it.

Rewards for Defeating Erika

A jack of all trades when it comes to gaming. I can sit down for hours in a casual playthrough of Pokémon, or I can spend months trying to hit Diamond in League of Legends. I love and appreciate everything about games, and love sharing that passion with my readers.
