Gym Puzzle Solution
The Fuchsia City Gym’s puzzle involves navigating “invisible” walls in order to reach Koga. The nice thing about these walls is that they are not completely invisible.
If you look at the floor tiles in the Gym, any tile that has white corners will be a wall.
This makes it much easier to navigate Koga’s maze because we can simply walk around any tile with these white corners.
First, you will want to head slightly to the right of Koga, and then make your way north.
You’ll need to continue heading north until you hit the northern wall of the Gym.
Once you hit the north wall, you can snake back around to the left and make your way towards Koga.
Finally, you can make your way through the last portion of the maze and challenge Koga for the Soul Badge.
Tips for Beating Koga
- Level up your party past Level 40. Koga’s team is very strong. While most of his party is below Level 40, his Weezing is Level 43 and will be difficult to deal with if your party is not leveled up enough.
- Do not fight a battle of attrition. Toxic is a very devastating move in prolonged battles. Toxic Badly Poisons Pokémon, which means they will take more and more poison damage at the end of every turn. This means the longer the battle goes, the more damage the Poison from Toxic will do. So either keep some Antidotes in your Bag or go for the KO as soon as possible.
- Psychic is better than Ground. Poison Pokémon are weak to Psychic and Ground Type moves. However, Koga’s party is mostly made up of Koffing and Weezing, both of which have the Levitate ability. This makes them completely immune to Ground Type moves. So, Ground Type Pokémon will be effective against Muk, but that’s it.
- Poison-type Pokémon are immune to Poison. Koga’s main strategy is using Toxic to slowly whittle down your team turn by turn. If you have a Poison Type Pokémon, you can start the battle with them to negate Koga’s main strategy and set yourself up for victory.
