SolarBeam Move Details
Type Grass
Category Special
Power 120
Accuracy 100
PP 10

SolarBeam is a Grass-type Special Attack with a great chance to O.H.K.O its target. With 120 Power and perfect Accuracy, the move’s devastating damage output is balanced by the fact that it’s a two turn move.

  1. SolarBeam requires one turn to charge, so it does nothing when you first use it.
  2. Then it will execute the move on the following turn

But there is a strategy that allows SolarBeam to be used in 1 turn without a charge.

If the weather is sunny, SolarBeam can be used in the same turn every turn.

The easiest way to guarantee sunny weather is to use the move Sunny Day. The effects of Sunny Day last for five turns, which gives you a window to use SolarBeam for five consecutive uses.

You could even use Sunny Day multiple times per battle if needed.

Who To Teach SolarBeam To

In FireRed & LeafGreen there are several Grass-types that can learn both SolarBeam and Sunny Day. Some great options to teach this move combo to would be Exeggutor, Venusaur, and Vileplume.

Grass-types are able to use SolarBeam exceptionally well, because STAB (Same-type attack bonus) boosts the move’s Power to 180.
