There are two main ways to obtain Mental Herbs in ORAS. The simplest method involves completing a brief sidequest in Fortree City. An NPC will task his Wingull to deliver a letter. Once you find Wingull in Mossdeep City and return to the NPC, he’ll reward you with a Mental Herb.
Alternatively, you can use TM46 Thief to steal Mental Herbs from wild Lotad, Lombre, or Sewaddle. Each of these Pokémon only has a 5% chance of holding a Mental Herb, but you can use your DexNav to improve your odds.
It’s important to note that both Lotad and Lombre are exclusive to Alpha Sapphire. This means if you’re playing Omega Ruby, you can only find a Mental Herb from wild Sewaddle.
Method 1 – Fortree City (One-time Only)

You can first visit Fortree City after you defeat Team Aqua/Magma at the Weather Institute on Route 119. But, to get the Mental Herb from the sidequest, you’ll also need access to Mossdeep City.
In the city, a particular Pokémon Breeder will send out his Wingull to deliver a letter to a specific house in Mossdeep City. After you find the house where Wingull sent the letter, it will return back to its owner. When you talk to the Pokemon Breeder again, he’ll give you a Mental Herb as a reward.
To start this sidequest, make your way back to Fortree City:
Step 1: From the Pokémon Center, head east and climb up the nearby ladder.

Step 2: Once you’ve climbed up the top of the ladder, proceed east and cross the bridges towards the rightmost treehouse.

Step 3: At the end of the path, go inside the rightmost treehouse with a Bird Keeper in front.

Step 4: Inside, talk to the Pokémon Breeder. He’ll send out his Wingull to deliver a letter to someone in Mossdeep City.

Step 5: Fly to Mossdeep City. From the Pokémon Center, go south to the nearby intersection.

Step 6: Take a right turn and continue eastward until you see the staircase that leads to the Mossdeep Space Center.

Step 7: When you see it, go up the stairs and immediately turn right.

Step 8: Following the path leads to a house. Go inside the house where Wingull delivered the letter.

Step 9: Inside the house, you’ll find Wingull near a Lady wearing a white hat. Interact with Wingull to make it return to Fortree City.

Step 10: Head back to the Pokémon Breeder’s house in Fortree City. There, you’ll see that Wingull has returned.
Speak with the Pokémon Breeder and you’ll receive a Mental Herb.

Method 2 – Stealing from Wild Lotad, Lombre, or Sewaddle

Another way to obtain a Power Herb is by finding it as a held item on wild Lotad, Lombre, or Sewaddle. They can be found at the following locations:
- Lotad – Route 102 (Alpha Sapphire Exclusive)
- Lombre – Route 114 (Alpha Sapphire Exclusive)
- Sewaddle – Route 101, Route 104 (DexNav)
When you encounter a wild Lotad, Lombre, or Sewaddle, there’s a 5% chance they will be holding a Mental Herb.
By using a Pokémon with TM46 Thief you can steal the item from it.
The complete list of Pokémon available in these areas is as follows:

How the Mental Herb Works

The Mental Herb is a consumable held item that can automatically cure the negative effects induced by certain moves. After a negative effect like infatuation is cured, the Mental Herb is consumed and disappears.
Mental Herbs are capable of curing the negative effects of the following moves and abilities:
Move | Effect |
---|---|
Attract | Infatuates the target of the opposite gender, making it unable to move 50% of the time |
Disable | Prevents the usage of the target’s last move for 4 turns |
Encore | Forces the target to repeat the last move used for 3 turns |
Heal Block | Prevents the target from healing for 5 turns |
Taunt | Forces the target to only use damaging moves for 3 turns |
Torment | Prevents the target from using the same move consecutively |
Ability | Effect |
Cursed Body | When hit, there’s a 30% chance to disable a foe’s move for 4 turns |
Cute Charm | Upon making contact, there’s a 30% chance to infatuate a foe of the opposite gender |
In competitive battles, a Mental Herb is an invaluable held item for defensive Pokémon like Amoonguss or Meowstic, which often rely on several status moves to be effective.
The ever-popular move Taunt can often shut down strategies like these. So the ability to negate even one of these disruptive moves with Mental Herb could win you the battle.
You may also encounter Pokémon that use Encore or possess abilities like Gengar’s Cursed Body. Though it’s less common than Taunt, it can be quite annoying to deal with without a Mental Herb.
However, in your regular playthrough, NPCs will hardly be using these types of moves. So this item is quite limited in a single-player playthrough.
