Water Pulse Details and Uses

In-game description of TM03 Water Pulse.

Water Pulse is a damage-dealing, Water-type special move that also has a 20% chance of confusing the target.

Water Pulse Move Details
Type Water
Category Special
Power 60
Accuracy 100%
PP 20 (max. 32)

Water Pulse is the only Water-type move that can cause confusion.

Its lower base power of 60 feels like a tradeoff for only a 20% chance of inflicting the confusion status.

But teaching it to a Water-type Pokémon with a high Special Attack stat, like Blastoise, Milotic, or Slowking, can make it much more capable as an attack.

Miscellaneous information about Water Pulse:

  • Starting with the Gen VI games, Water Pulse’s chance of inflicting confusion can be boosted by 50% if the user has the ability Mega Launcher.
  • If used in a Pokémon Contest in the Beauty category, Water Pulse will earn the user 2 Appeal Points, plus 2 bonus Appeal Points if the user is the first Pokémon to act on that turn.
    • It can also be used as part of a combination, earning 3 bonus Appeal Points if the Pokémon used Rain Dance on the previous turn.
