The Eden Project is one of the Monuments that you can build in Cities: Skylines.

To unlock the Eden Project, you need to reach the Megalopolis milestone, unlock all 9 map tiles, and you’ll need to unlock these six unique buildings:

Once these buildings are constructed, you’ll be able to build the Eden Project from the Monuments tab for ₡850,000.

Note: All 6 buildings need to be standing at the same time for the Eden Project to be unlocked. But once you build the Eden Project you can destroy any of the required unlocking buildings at that time.

Once built, the Eden Project increases the land value and reduces pollution across your city.

Below is a basic guide to unlocking the six unique buildings required to build this monument!

Statue of Industry

Milestone Required Worthy Village
Build Cost ₡20,000
Upkeep Cost ₡320/week
Entertainment Value 50
Noise Pollution 10

To unlock the Statue of Industry, you’ll need to have 10,000 squares of industry (yellow zoning) built.

In order to count towards the unlock, the squares cannot be empty—they need to have buildings grow on them.

You can hover over the Statue of Industry in the level 1 tab of the Unique Buildings menu to check your progress / Cities: Skylines

This means you’ll have to have actual demand for industry in order to reach the 10,000 squares target.

Demand for industry occurs when people need workplaces. So if your city’s industrial demand bar is low or zero, it’s likely you simply need to get more citizens to move in by zoning residences.

Friendly Neighborhood Park

Milestone Required Tiny Town

Noise Pollution 25

The Friendly Neighborhood Park can be unlocked by having 10,000 squares of residential zoning.

Just like with unlocking the Statue of Industry, these squares need to have buildings grow on them. So there needs to be demand for residential zoning.

There’s a good chance you’ll have unlocked the Friendly Neighborhood Park simply by growing your city as you normally would.

However, if you’re new and finding it difficult to grow your city, or have zero demand for residential, here are a few tips that can help:

Tip #1: Make sure all the essentials are provided

People won’t move into your city if there’s a problem with essential city services like water, power, and garbage collection.

Make sure your residences have adequate access to these.

Tip #2: Provide workplaces

Oftentimes, zero or low residential demand coincides with high industrial or commercial demand.

This means people need places to work.

Fulfill any demand for industry and commercial zoning, and you’ll likely see an increase in residential demand.

Tip #3: Ensure access to education

Building educational facilities is a great way to encourage growth in your city.

Make sure there’s enough access to all the educational levels that you currently have unlocked (elementary, high school, and university).

Doing this also prevents the problem of your commercial or office zones not having enough educated workers.

Official Park

Building Type Unique Building
Level / Category Level 3
Milestone Required Big Town
Build Cost ₡45,000
Upkeep Cost ₡128/week

The Official Park is unlocked by building 10,000 squares of office zoning.

Although the level 3 unique buildings tab is unlocked at Boom Town, you’ll need to reach Big Town before you can start zoning offices.

And just like with growing your industry zones, you’ll have to make sure you have enough citizens to fill the workplaces in your office zones.

In addition, office zones require workers that are educated (high school graduates) and highly educated (university graduates). So don’t neglect building your educational facilities!

Gateway Arch

Level / Category Level 4
Milestone Required Busy Town
Build Cost ₡80,000
Upkeep Cost ₡400/week
Entertainment Value 100
Noise Pollution 25

Note: Because of a bug, the Gateway Arch may be labeled “Business Park” in the menu.

The Gateway Arch is unlocked by building 20,000 squares of commercial zone.

This is a more challenging unlock compared to the three unique buildings listed above, as cities tend to demand much less commercial zoning than residential or industry/office.

According to the Skylines Wiki, for commercial demand to be fulfilled, there needs to be 1 commercial worker for every 8 citizens.

This basically means you’ll need a fairly large population in order to need 20,000 squares.

Here are a few more tips for growing your 20,000 squares of commercial zoning:

Tip #1: Don’t neglect education

Commercial buildings need educated workers as well.

So be sure to build elementary and high schools once they’re unlocked and you can afford them.

Otherwise, your commercial buildings may face a shortage of educated workers, which can eventually lead to abandoned buildings.

Tip #2: Break the commercial zoning into smaller clusters

Lumping all your commercial zoning into one area can lead to traffic problems. Don’t forget that commercial buildings also draw traffic from delivery trucks, as well as the people that work and shop.

Large areas of commercial buildings can also generate a lot of noise, which can cause nearby residences to complain.

So it’s usually a good idea to scatter them around your city in smaller clusters (say, a block each).

Breaking your commercial zoning into small clusters can help prevent traffic jams. / Cities: Skylines

Of course, it’s fine if you really want to build something like a shopping district. Just make sure you plan it well and have an efficient public transport system in place to avoid traffic jams.

Servicing Services Office

Upkeep Cost ₡320/week

The Servicing Services Office requires you to build 300 city service buildings. Multiple instances of each city service building type will count towards your progress.

This unlock will cost a lot of money, but it’s likely you’ll make good use of these buildings as you grow your city anyway.

You can build excess service buildings for this unlock (say, more power plants or schools than you currently need) and just switch them off afterwards.

That way you won’t keep paying the weekly upkeep cost.

Here’s a list of the service buildings that you can build for this unlock. More details about each building can be found in our Servicing Services Office unlock guide.

Reaching the Megalopolis Milestone

You’ll need to reach the final population milestone (Megalopolis) before you can build the Eden Project – or any other monument, for that matter.

This milestone can happen anywhere from 20,000 to 90,000 citizens.

Generally speaking, the more buildable land a map has, the higher the required number of citizens per milestone.

Unlocking 9 Tiles

You get a single tile at the start of each game and can expand up to 9 (if playing without mods).

You unlock each of the 8 remaining tiles at different milestones:

Tile Milestone
1 N/A (game start)
2 Worthy Village
3 Boom Town
4 Big Town
5 Big City
6 Capital City
7 Colossal City
8 Metropolis
9 Megalopolis

Each time you hit one of these milestones, you can choose a new tile to purchase by going to the Areas panel.

The Areas panel where you can purchase new tiles / Cities: Skylines
The Areas panel where you can purchase new tiles

But you can only buy a tile that is connected to a tile you already own. And each succeeding tile is more expensive than the last.

Note: Tiles with more buildable land tend to be more expensive as well.

Quick Tip: Work at the Statue of Industry, Friendly Neighborhood Park, Official Park, and Gateway Arch Concurrently

The unlock paths for these four unique buildings are similar in that each requires a certain amount of zoning. Each one corresponds to a different zone type:

  • Friendly Neighborhood Park – residential
  • Statue of Industry – industrial
  • Official Park – office
  • Gateway Arch – commercial

It’s a good idea to work towards these buildings at the same time, since expanding a city generally means maintaining a balance between these four zone types anyway.

Just keep an eye on your zoning demand bars to make sure you’re not neglecting any particular zoning type.
