Detailed Unlocking Guide
The Level 34 quest “The Things We Do for Cheese” is deep into the patch 2.0 Main Scenario Questline for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. You’ll need to do every quest leading up to it before it can be unlocked.
So finish any backlog of MSQs before talking to Wheiskaet in Eastern La Noscea (X:32.6, Y:30.5).
At this point in the main storyline, you are preparing for a banquet for Master Gegeruju in Eastern La Noscea.
Wheiskaet, a former member of the Company of Heroes, will have you obtain the third ingredient for one of the main dishes in the banquet from one of his old comrades, Brayflox.
Brayflox informed Wheiskaet that the delivery may be delayed due to problems in the humble goblin’s longstop. The old captain now serves as Master Gegeruju’s bodyguard, so he can’t leave the beach property to help his friend.
Instead, he would have you investigate Brayflox’s situation.
Talk to Ozun Nazun in Eastern La Noscea (X:28.3, Y:23.6) to continue.
After a brief conversation, Ozun Nazun will tell you the directions to Brayflox’s Longstop and point you toward the Ferry Skipper in Eastern La Noscea (X:28.3, Y:23.6). Talk to the skipper to travel to the other side of Eastern La Noscea.
Upon arriving, head to Eastern La Noscea (X:14.7, Y:24.5) and speak with Brayflox.
You’ll learn that monsters chased her away from her longstop and will need your assistance in driving them out if you want to get the third ingredient.
Once you’re done talking to Brayflox, Brayflox’s Longstop will be unlocked.
This dungeon requires at least a Level 34 Disciple of War or Magic job to enter and has no item level requirement. This dungeon has four bosses you’ll need to tackle, so take your time in learning about each boss and their mechanics.
Boss #1: Great Yellow Pelican
Mechanics:
At the start of the fight, you’ll notice three “Violet Back” mobs with the boss. Kill these mobs before focusing on the boss.
- Hammer Beak: A single-target tankbuster attack on the primary target.
- Numbing Breath: A frontal cone AoE that applies a 30-second “Paralysis” debuff. Dispel the debuff should anyone get hit.
- Violet Back + Sable Back + Blue Back: The boss will summon three different mobs throughout the fight. These mobs have annoying debuffs, so kill them as soon as possible.
- Poison Breath (Violetback): A non-telegraphed frontal cone AoE that applies a “Poison” DoT for 30 seconds. Dispel the DoT as necessary.
- Slumber Breath (Sable Back): A telegraphed frontal cone AoE that applies an 8-second “Sleep” debuff. Dispel the debuff as necessary.
- Petribreath (Blue Back): A telegraphed frontal cone AoE that applies an 8-second “Petrifaction” debuff. This debuff can also be dispelled.
