Detailed Unlocking Guide

Matoya’s Relict is an expert-level dungeon made available in patch 5.4 of the Shadowbringers expansion.

To unlock it, you must first complete every MSQ leading up to “Like Master, Like Pupil,” including every MSQ from the previous expansion and base game.

After doing so, you can accept the quest from Y’shtola in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:9.0, Y:13.5) to begin.

In the main story, you and your fellow scions are researching methods of curing the tempered on a larger scale. Y’shtola suggests visiting Master Matoya as she is the foremost authority in familiars.

Speak with Y’shtola once more outside the old master’s cave in The Dravanian Hinterlands (X:12.9, Y:36.5) to trigger a cutscene.

After exchanging pleasantries with Matoya and explaining the situation, she suggests creating a “Mother” Porxie to streamline the curing process.

Her old workshop at The Dravanian Hinterlands can be used for molding the theoretical Porxie.

Boss #1: Mudman

Mudman - Humanoid Peat / Final Fantasy XIV
Mudman – Humanoid Peat

Mechanics

  • Hard Rock: A red tankbuster marker on the primary target. Shield and heal through the damage.
  • Petrified Peat: Four ground AoEs that apply stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuffs for 60 seconds on hit. Afterward, each AoE will drop a “Sludge” DoT puddle and a brown sphere.
  • Peat Pelt: All players will be tethered to brown spheres that must be siphoned by a drainage hole. After a few seconds, each sphere will rush toward its tethered player.
If a sphere isn’t siphoned into a hole, it’ll get bigger and make the next attack hit harder. Mudman clones may also appear to block some drainage holes from being used. Position yourself near an unblocked drainage hole to remove the tether.
  • Brittle Breccia: A 270-degree AoE that expands outward three times and applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 30 seconds. Stand behind or far away from the boss to avoid.
  • Stone Age: A room-wide AoE attack.
  • Falling Rock: A stack marker on a random player. Stand inside the marker to share incoming damage.

Mother Porxie – the Porcine Porcelain

Mechanics

  • Tender Loin: A room-wide AoE attack.
  • Huff and Puff + Medium Rear: The boss will move to the north and prepare a room-wide knockback attack followed by a room-wide donut AoE that applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 120 seconds.
Position yourselves to get knocked toward the safe zone in the center. Knockback-immunity skills will not work for this mechanic.
  • Meat Mallet + Barbecue + To a Crisp: The boss will jump to one edge of the arena using a proximity-based marker. Then, it’ll start dragging players into a black danger zone that constantly applies 60-second “Vulnerability Up” debuffs.
During this time, the boss will also use circle and column AoEs that push you closer to it. Getting stuck in this danger zone will eventually result in guaranteed death. Keep running away from the boss until the mechanic finishes.
  • Minced Meat: A red tankbuster marker on the primary target. Shield and heal through the damage.
  • Open Flame: Targeted circle AoEs on all players. Spread out to avoid overlapping damage.
  • Aeolian Cave Sprite: The boss will spawn a sprite that needs to be killed before the “Mother Porxie’s Magic” gauge reaches 100 to avoid a wipe. After killing the sprite, all players will be knocked in the air and see where the next “Huff and Puff” will come from.
  • Buffet (Aeolian Cave Sprite): A column attack on a random player.
  • Explosion (Aeolian Cave Sprite): A room-wide AoE attack based on the boss’ “Mother Porxie’s Magic” gauge. Kill the sprite before the gauge reaches 100.
