
You can unlock the Level 80 dungeon Anamnesis Anyder by accepting the Level 80 MSQ “Beneath the Surface” from Urianger in Lakeland (X:26.1, Y:32.5). This MSQ is part of the patch 5.2 Main Scenario Questline for the Shadowbringers expansion.
In this guide we’ll explain how to unlock the dungeon, how to handle all of the boss mechanics, and we’ll list all the possible loot you can get.
Unlocking Quest: Beneath the Surface
“Beneath the Surface” is a Level 80 MSQ made available in patch 5.2 of the Shadowbringers expansion. It can only be accepted after you complete every MSQ leading up to it, including every MSQ from the previous expansion and the base game.
Once you’ve caught up with the storyline then you can speak with Urianger in Lakeland (X:26.1, Y:32.5) to begin the unlocking quest.

Y’shtola seeks to understand more about Elidibus and his ploy to pose as the Warrior of Light.
With the help of the Ondo, you’ve learned about the existence of Anamnesis Anyder and have acquired the help of the primal Bismarck to take you there.
After briefly talking to Urianger, speak with him once more in Kholusia (X:10.7, Y:36.1) to call upon the primal and unlock Anamnesis Anyder. This dungeon requires at least a Level 80 Disciple of War or Magic job and an average item level of 440 to enter.
Boss #1: Unknown

Mechanics
- Fetid Fang: A red tankbuster marker on the primary target. Mitigate and heal through the damage.
- Scrutiny: The boss will move to the center and spawn orange AoE orbs covering most of the arena along with a spinning arrow. Once the arrow slows down, it’ll tick thrice before spawning a narrow frontal cone AoE. At the same time, the orbs around the arena will explode.
All AoEs apply stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuffs for 60 seconds. Determine where the arrow will land and stand in a safe zone away from it. - Luminous Ray: The boss will charge a column attack toward one direction that applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds.
- Inscrutability: A room-wide AoE attack that applies “Bleeding” DoTs for 12 seconds.
- Unknown Clone: On the second “Scrutiny” cast, the boss will spawn a clone that will use the same attacks. Kill the original boss first.
- Ectoplasmic Ray: A line stack marker on a random player starting from the second “Scrunity” cast. Stack in one safe zone while avoiding the frontal cone AoE.
- Clearout: A short frontal cone AoE that applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds.
- Setback: A short backward cone AoE that applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds.
- Plain Weirdness: A “Damage Up” buff on the remaining “Unknown” clone after the original boss is defeated.

Boss #2: Kyklops

Most of the boss’ attacks apply stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuffs for 60 seconds.
Mechanics
- The Final Verse: A room-wide AoE attack.
- Eye of the Cyclone: A room-wide donut AoE.
- Terrible Hammer and Terrible Blade: Red hammer and blue sword markers will spawn and eventually explode into knock-up AoEs based on the order of appearance. Stand in the second set of AoEs, wait for the first set to go off, then move into the safe zones.
- Raging Glower: The boss will turn to a random player and use a non-telegraphed column AoE.
- 2000-mina Swipe: A frontal cone AoE with a delayed telegraph. Move behind the boss when it raises its hand.
- 2000-mina Swing: A point-blank AoE with a delayed telegraph. Move away from melee range when the boss crouches.
- Wanderer’s Pyre: Targeted circle AoEs on all players. Spread out to avoid overlap.
- Open Hearth: A stack marker on a random player. Stand inside the marker to share incoming damage.

Boss #3: Rukshs Dheem

Mechanics
- Bonebreaker: A red tankbuster marker on the primary target. Shield and heal through the damage.
- Seabed Ceremony: A room-wide AoE attack that will spawn narrow strips of water throughout the arena. This can either be one strip in the middle or two strips on each flank. Standing in these areas will result in a constant “Dropsy” DoT.
- Death Grip (One Strip): The boss will spawn liquid hands that will eventually rush toward the direction they are facing, applying stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuffs for 60 seconds to anyone in their paths. Stand behind the hands facing the opposite direction.
- Death Grip (Two Strips): In this variation, four hands will spawn on each side of the arena. Stand at the end of the first set of hands, wait for them to go off, then sprint to the other side to avoid the succeeding set.
- Falling Water: Massive targeted circle AoEs on two players during “Death Grip.”
- Rising Tide: Room-wide column AoEs from the boss’ cardinaldirections that apply stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuffs for 60 seconds.
- Queen’s Harpooner: The drainage grates on the floor will begin to bubble up and eventually spawn “Queen’s Harpooner” mobs that will tether to the boss. These harpooners will make the boss invincible, so kill them as soon as possible. Stand in a bubble grate to prevent a harpooner from spawning.
- Coral Trident (Queen’s Harpooner): A frontal cone AoE.
- Death Grip + Queen’s Harpooner: In this variation, any harpooner that will spawn directly in front of a hand will be killed, so you don’t need to handle those. Stand on the bubbling grates opposite of a “Death Grip” hand.
- Flying Fount: A stack marker on a random player. Stand inside the marker to share incoming damage.
- Command Current: Two connected frontal cone AoEs on each of the boss’ cardinal directions. Each AoE applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds.
