FFXIV The Antitower: How To Unlock + Boss Guide

The Antitower Dungeon Exterior in FFXIV

The Level 60 dungeon The Antitower can be unlocked by accepting the Level 60 MSQ “The Word of the Mother” from Alphinaud in The Rising Stones (X:6.1, Y:6.0).

This MSQ is part of the main storyline for patch 3.2 of the Heavensward expansion.

Step-by-Step Unlock Guide

  1. Accept the Level 60 MSQ “The Word of the Mother” from Alphinaud in The Rising Stones (X:6.1, Y:6.0).
  2. Meet Krile and Thancred in Idyllshire (X:7.0, Y:6.4).
  3. Speak with Matoya in her cave at Matoya’s Cave (Zone) (X:6.5, Y:6.3).

Detailed Unlocking Guide

The Antitower is part of the story dungeons for patch 3.2 of the Heavensward expansion, so you’ll need to go through every MSQ leading up to it before it can be unlocked. This includes every MSQ from the A Realm Reborn base game.

After that, talk to Alphinaud in The Rising Stones (X:6.1, Y:6.0) to begin.

In this part of the main story, the scions continue to search for their missing antecedent, Minfilia.

Thancred and Krile have just concluded their expedition back into Castrum Meridianum and are eager to share what they’ve learned.

Meet your friends in Idyllshire (X:7.0, Y:6.4) to continue.

Upon talking to Krile, a cutscene will trigger where she explains their findings inside the abandoned castrum. Krile speculates that Minifilia may have been guided by Hydaelyn herself unto the aetherial sea for unknown reasons.

To confirm this, she’ll need to visit The Antitower, a Sharlayan structure built to study the aetherial sea.

Master Matoya serves as the last custodian of the ancient vantage point, so you’ll need to ask for her aid in entering.

Talk to her in Matoya’s Cave (Zone) (X:6.5, Y:6.3) to continue.

Another cutscene will trigger as you talk to Matoya.

She’ll allow you to enter The Antitower in exchange for some of your friends staying in her cave to do some “chores”.

Though the old custodian warns that the tower was abandoned to its magical keepers more than a decade ago, so you’ll need to do a bit of “cleaning” yourself.

Once you finish talking to Matoya, The Antitower will be unlocked.

This dungeon requires at least a Level 60 Disciple of War or Magic job and an average item level of 180 enter.

Mechanics

Phase 1: Calca and Brina

The fight begins with three “Calca” and three “Brina” mobs. These dolls can’t be tanked and use generic AoE attacks. The fight will transition to Phase 2 after the mobs are killed.

  • Heat Gaze (Calca): Frontal cone AoE.
  • Heat Gaze (Brina): Donut AoE around the doll.

Phase 2: Calcabrina

  • Terrifying Glance: A random player will be targeted with a look-away marker. If you’re marked, turn your character away from the boss to avoid the 10-second “Confused” debuff. If you’re not marked, look away from the targeted player.
  • Knockout: A point-blank tankbuster attack on the primary target.
  • Brace: The boss will move to the center and spawn shields on its flanks and back for eight seconds. Hitting the boss through its shields will nullify your damage and knock you back. Attack the boss from the front until the shields wear off.
  • Dollhouse: Two players will be turned into dolls and receive a 20-second “Bleeding DoT.” These dolls will use “Heat Gaze” until the players are freed. Destroy the dolls as soon as possible.
  • Slapstick: A constant room-wide AoE attack during “Dollhouse.” Heal through the damage while destroying the dolls.
