FFXIV The Grand Cosmos: Unlock + Boss Guide

The Grand Cosmos - The Palace of the Elves (FFXIV)

You can unlock the Level 80 dungeon The Grand Cosmos by accepting the Level 80 MSQ “A Grand Adventure” from the Crystal Exarch in The Ocular (X:6.1, Y:6.0). This expert-level dungeon was introduced in patch 5.1 of the Shadowbringers expansion.

In this guide we’ll explain how to unlock the dungeon, how to handle all of the bosses, plus we’ll list all the potential loot you can get as well.

Unlocking Quest: A Grand Adventure

“A Grand Adventure” is a Level 80 MSQ from patch 5.1 of the Shadowbringers expansion.

So you’ll need to complete every MSQ up to that point before it can be unlocked, including every MSQ from the base game and previous expansions.

When you’re done with that, talk to Crystal Exarch in The Ocular (X:6.1, Y:6.0) to begin.

At this point in the main story, your fellow scions are still stuck in a coma back in The Source even after the defeat of Emet-Selch.

The Crystal Exarch, who is responsible for summoning the scions to The First, is investigating a means of soul transference and preservation to nurse your friends back to full health.

During your conversation, he points toward The Grand Cosmos – an old palace of the elves now inhabited by a Nu Mou named Beq Lugg.

The Exarch is confident Beq Lugg can assist with the soul transference.

Speak with the Crystal Exarch once more in Lakeland (X:19.1, Y:34.5) to continue.

A brief cutscene will trigger where you and your friends prepare to sail toward the elven palace. Afterward, The Grand Cosmos will be unlocked. This dungeon requires at least a Level 80 Disciple of War or Magic job and an average item level of 430 to enter.

Mechanics

  • Shadowbolt: A red tankbuster marker on the primary target. Shield and heal through the damage.
  • Immortal Anathema: A room-wide AoE attack.
  • Tribulation: The boss will move to the center and spawn purple puddles that apply a “Bleeding” DoT and a “Heavy” debuff for 15 seconds.
  • Sweep: After a few seconds, the brooms outside the arena will start sweeping across, knocking back anyone in their paths and applying a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds. The brooms will also turn the purple puddles into white knockback AoEs that apply the same debuff.
  • Dark Shock: Ground AoEs on two random players that apply stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuffs for 60 seconds.
  • Dark Pulse: A stack-up marker on a random player. Stand inside the marker to share incoming damage.
  • Dark Well: Targeted circle AoEs on random players. Spread out to avoid overlap.

Boss #2: Leannan Sith

Mechanics

  • Storm of Color: A red tankbuster marker on the primary target. Use mitigation skills and heal through the damage.
  • Ode to Lost Love: A room-wide AoE attack.
  • Direct Seeding + Gardener’s Hymn: The arena will be divided into a 4×4 grid, with certain sections covered in green. You’ll also see Leannan Seeds scattered throughout the arena. Interact with the seeds to pick them up and drop them away from the green sections. Any seeds still inside a green section after “Gardener’s Hymn” goes off will turn into “Lover’s Ring” mobs.
  • Toxic Spout (Lover’s Ring): A room-wide AoE that applies a stacking “Poison” DoT and a “Slow” debuff to all players. Kill any “Lover’s Ring” before they self-destruct and dispel the debuffs as necessary.
  • Ode to Far Winds: Targeted circle AoEs on all players along with ground AoEs covering most of the arena. Each ground AoE applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds. Spread out to your own safe zones to avoid overlapping damage.
  • Ode to Fallen Petals: Immediately after “Ode to Far Winds,” the boss will use a room-wide donut AoE that applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds.
  • Ireful Wind: Starting from the second “Direct Seeding + Gardener’s Hymn,” a green Djinn will cast a room-wide knockback attack from one side of the arena, knocking every Leannan Seed back by one tile. Drop the Leannan Seeds on tiles that will knock them into safe zones.

Boss #3: Lugus

Lugus - The Insatiable Flame / Final Fantasy XIV
Lugus – The Insatiable Flame

Throughout the arena, you’ll see different furniture that you’ll need to use later in the fight. Avoid clipping any targetable furniture with AoEs.

Mechanics

  • Scorching Right or Left: A massive AoE attack that covers whichever side the boss swings from. This attack applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds.
  • Otherworldly Heat: Red markers on top of all players that drop cross-shaped AoEs after a few seconds. Each marker applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds. Spread out to avoid overlap.
  • Captive Bolt: A red tankbuster marker on the primary target. Mitigate and heal through the damage.
  • Mortal Flame: Each player will receive a blue instant-KO marker for 16 seconds. Interact with a piece of furniture to transfer the marker and survive.
  • Fire’s Domain + Fire’s Ire: The boss will mark players 1-4 for proximity-based tethers. Then, it’ll jump to each player in order and use a room-wide frontal cone AoE. Both the frontal cone and the proximity tether (if you’re too close) apply stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuffs for 60 seconds. Drag your tethers to the edges of the arena to reduce the frontal cone’s range.
  • Culling Blade: A room-wide AoE attack. On its first use, it’ll drop three chandeliers which you can use during “Mortal Flame.”
