Tips for Beating Falkner
- Level Up Your Starter to Level 12+: Falkner’s team is pretty basic, and you should be able to beat it with a decent Starter. Unless you’re playing with special rules (Nuzlocke), your Starter should be around Level 12 or more by the time you reach Falkner.
- Bring a Couple More Pokémon: While Falkner only has two Pokémon, you can grow your party up to six. Even if they’re not all Level 10+, you can still get much value from a larger team.
- Beat Sprout Tower First: If you’re missing some levels or want to grow your team, it’s good to tackle Sprout Tower (northeast of the Gym) and get HM05 Flash first.
- Watch Out for Mud-Slap: Fire-types don’t have to worry about Normal or Flying-type moves, but Falkner’s birds know Mud-Slap. This damage-dealing Ground-type move is super-effective against Cyndaquil.
- Remember to Heal Before the Battle: Even though the battle is relatively easy, beating the entire Gym in one go isn’t. Make sure to visit the Pokémon Center before tackling Falkner.
