How To Get the Lift Key (Rocket Hideout) in Pokémon FRLG

Inside the elevator in the Rocket Hideout in FireRed

To get the Lift Key you’ll need to head to B4F of the Team Rocket Game Corner Hideout in Celadon City. In the northwest corner of the fourth basement floor (B4F) you’ll find a Team Rocket Grunt that will drop the Lift Key after you defeat them in battle.

After you win the battle just pick up the Poké Ball that appears on the ground and you’ll pick up your Lift Key.

But to reach B4F you’ll need to get through a small arrow maze puzzle, so we’ll cover this entire process in more detail below.

Prerequisites

If you’re already in Team Rocket’s Hideout then you don’t need to do anything else and you can head right for the Lift Key.

Otherwise, here are the prerequisites for being able to access the Team Rocket Hideout:

  • Be able to reach Celadon City

If you don’t already know, you can get into Team Rocket’s Hideout by:

  1. Entering the Rocket Game Corner in Celadon City
  2. Defeating the Rocket Grunt in the northeast corner by the wall
  3. And then pressing A on the poster they were guarding

A staircase will appear that you can walk down to enter the Hideout.

Getting the Lift Key (Step-by-Step)

After you enter Team Rocket’s Hideout, start making your way to the third basement floor (B3F) by taking every staircase heading down.

These staircases are all right next to each other, so every time you enter a new floor you should see the next staircase heading down to the next basement floor below.

You’ll know you’ve reached B3F because a text box will appear on your screen with each floor number.

Once you’re on B3F, head west to find the Arrow Maze.

We need to use this maze to get to the southeast corner, where there’s a staircase to B4F.

For a quick solution to this puzzle, just follow the Arrow Maze pads in this order:

Take these two arrow pads first, which will position you for the final arrow pad / Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen

After you take the final Arrow Pad shown above, you’ll be placed to the right of a Team Rocket Grunt.

Below you will be an exit, and to the far east of your position will be a staircase heading down.

Leave the little nook you’re in and make your way to the staircase in the southeast corner of B3F.

Once you take the staircase down to B4F, make your way to the northwest corner of the floor.

Using the Lift Key

With the Lift Key in your bag, you’ll now be able to use the Elevator in the Team Rocket Game Corner Hideout. This allows you to reach a previously-inaccessible floor where you’ll face off against Giovanni.
