Where To Get the Charizardite Y in Pokémon ORAS

Mega Charizard Y in battle in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire

Charizardite Y, one of Charizard’s Mega Stones, can be found underground in Scorched Slab. This is a cave accessible by using Surf to cross a lake on Route 120.

The Charizardite Y Mega Stone can specifically be found on the Scorched Slab’s second floor underground, near the southwest corner of the floor. However it only spawns there after defeating/capturing Kyogre or Groudon in the Cave of Origin.

Tip: You can bring a Pokémon that knows TM70 Flash to light up the underground areas & help you reach the Mega Stone easier, but Flash is not required.

Charizardite Y Location (Step-by-Step)

Scorched Slab is a small cave on Route 120 where you can catch the Legendary Pokémon Heatran.

If you don’t know where to look then it’s easy to miss. We’ll show you exactly where to go to find this Mega Stone — but before heading out, make sure you’ve done the following:

  • Defeated/Caught Kyogre or Groudon in the Cave of Origin
  • Have a Pokémon in your party that knows HM03 Surf
  • Have a Pokémon in your party that knows TM70 Flash (Optional)

When you’re ready, you can start at Route 120 by using Fly or by Soaring.

Step 1: Starting at the Route 120 signpost, follow the left-hand path.

Step 2: Follow the dirt path until you reach the end of the tall grass below you. At this point, turn south and descend the steps hiding behind the tall grass patch.

Step 5: Once inside, surf forward and disembark on the land here. Then descend the stairs.

Step 6: If you want to light up this area of the cave, you can use TM70 Flash. It’s not required though, so you can just follow our screenshots instead to make it easier.

Once you’re down the stairs, walk a few paces east to reach a body of water. Then use Surf and go east on the water to get across to the other side of the room.

Tip: You can also just walk above & around this body of water since there’s a path above it, and then you can turn south afterwards to end up in the same spot.

Step 7: Land on the small strip of land on the eastern side of the water, then descend the stairs in the southeast corner of the room.

Step 8: On this next floor, move to the southwestern side of the current floor.

You’ll just want to walk a few paces down, then turn west and follow this along.

Step 9: Keep moving west and go down the stairs to the left.

After you’re down the stairs, turn to head south.

Step 10: You should quickly come to a dead end corner here in the southwestern corner of the room, where you’ll be blocked by some rocks.

To obtain the Charizardite Y, interact with the sparkling item near the rocks here (we’ve highlighted the exact spot below).

Is Mega Charizard Y Worth Using?

Mega Charizard Y is one of the game’s most powerful wallbreakers, with one of the highest Special Attack stats.

Mega Charizard Y is an intimidating offensive presence, especially in Sun teams, when combined with its new ability Drought. So if this type of Special Attacker can fit into your party then this Mega Evolution is worth using.

However, its low Defense stat and relatively average Speed make it fairly easy to take down.

Just like other weather teams, simply changing the weather can completely counter them.

The most notable disadvantage is Mega Charizard Y’s 4x weakness to Rock-type moves. This includes Stealth Rock, a popular entry hazard that deals a massive 50% of Charizard’s Max HP when it’s switched in.

All this being said, Mega Charizard Y is still a formidable opponent in battle – even if it isn’t as widely used as Mega Charizard X.

What Does Mega Charizard Y Offer?

When Charizard Mega Evolves into Mega Charizard Y, it changes its ability to Drought, which causes the weather to be sunny for five turns.

Drought causes Fire-type moves like Fire Blast to hit extremely hard, even against Pokémon that are resistant to it.

This ability also temporarily halves damage from Water-type moves – essentially removing your team’s weakness to Water-types. Not to mention that your Charizard also grants access to powerful coverage moves like Focus Blast and a one-turn Solar Beam.
