The Mystic Water is a type-enhancing item that boosts the power of Water-type moves.

You can get this item in the Weather Institute on Route 119. After driving off Team Magma/Aqua when they invade the building, a researcher will give you a Castform as a gift, and it will be holding Mystic Water.

It is also possible to farm Mystic Water from wild Pokémon – both Goldeen and Seaking have a 5% chance of carrying it when you encounter them through fishing.

Location #1: Weather Institute (held by Castform gift)

You can find the Weather Institute in the northwestern corner of Route 119.

Before you can get Castform from a researcher there, you need to defeat Team Magma/Aqua and the admin inside first.

Once you defeat the admin, they will leave the Weather Institute. Then one of the researchers (the one wearing a brown suit and bowler hat) will give you Castform as a thank you. It will be holding a Mystic Water.

Note: Make sure you have space in your team to receive Castform. If your party is full when you speak to the researcher, you can use the PC on the ground floor of the Weather Institute to deposit one of your Pokémon, then return to the researcher again to get Castform.

Location #2: Held by Wild Goldeen & Seaking

Wild Goldeen and Seaking have a 5% chance each of carrying Mystic Water. You can only encounter these Pokémon through fishing.

In the table below, you’ll find a more detailed look at Goldeen and Seaking locations, the type of fishing rod you need to catch them, and how rare they are to find.

Fishing – Super Rod 100%

With this method, the best way to get Mystic Water is by fishing for Seaking in the Safari Zone due to its 100% encounter rate.

Do note that you’ll need either the Mach Bike or the Acro Bike to access the fishing spots there.

Farming Mystic Waters

It is possible to farm Mystic Waters repeatedly as held items. All you need is a Pokémon that knows Thief.

When encountering a Goldeen or a Seaking, you can use Thief as your first move. If they are holding Mystic Water, you’ll obtain it immediately. And if not, you can flee and try again.

Just make sure that your Pokémon isn’t holding any item prior.

To get higher chances of encountering wild Pokémon with held items, you can use a held item farming strategy that makes use of Pokémon with the abilities CompoundEyes and Frisk.

How Mystic Water Works

When held by a Pokémon, Mystic Water increases the power of its holder’s water-type moves by 20%.

As with most type-enhancing items, Mystic Water gives a decent damage boost without any drawbacks – any water-type Pokémon will benefit from this item.

When Mystic Water was first introduced in Gen II, it only gave a 10% power boost. From Gen IV onwards, however, it was buffed to 20%.
