The TM for Facade can be bought for 10,000 Pokédollars in Mauville City’s PokéMart. The clerk sells it along with some other TMs as well. You can visit this PokéMart once you have access to Mauville City, so make sure you’ve explored Slateport City and Route 110 first.
TM42 Facade is a move that doubles its power when certain status conditions afflict the user.
It’s good against Pokémon who stall with moves like Toxic or Will-O-Wisp. You can also inflict status conditions on your own Pokémon with items like Toxic Orb and Flame Orb.
TM42 Facade Location
Since TM42 Facade is sold in Mauville City, you’re going to need access to the city. So make sure you’ve done these things first:
- Obtained the second Gym Badge from Brawly, Dewford Town’s Gym Leader
- Dealt with Team Aqua/Magma in Slateport City
- Fought your Rival in Route 110
When you’ve done all that, enter Mauville City through its south entrance from Route 110. The layout for Mauville City can be quite confusing, so here’s where Mauville City’s PokéMart is located:
Step 1: Enter Mauville City’s south entrance.

Step 2: Head outside to Square Tower.

Step 3: Enter the PokéMart up ahead, east of the Pokémon Center.

Step 4: Talk to the top clerk (located at the back wall) to buy TM42 Facade.

Along with TM42 Facade, the top clerk will also sell the following TMs:

Facade is a Physical Normal-type move that doubles its power while the user is burned, paralyzed or poisoned, bringing its base power up to 140.
To ensure Facade always has its base power doubled, you can use the held items Flame Orb and Toxic Orb to burn and poison your Pokémon reliably. You can get both Orbs for 16 BP each in the Battle Maison’s BP Shop, located at the Battle Resort.
Among the two options, the Flame Orb is usually the better option.
The Toxic Orb is less ideal, as it badly poisons the holder, dealing more damage in the long run. While the Flame Orb does burn you for a bit of HP each turn, the attack reduction from the status condition is no longer applied when using Facade.
Tip: Pokémon with the ability Guts are especially good at using Facade. While a Pokémon with Guts has a status condition, their Attack is boosted by 50%. Additionally, they will not suffer the attack reduction caused by burn.
The following Pokémon with Guts can also learn the move Facade:
- Rattata
- Raticate
- Machop
- Machoke
- Machamp
- Heracross
- Ursaring
- Tyrogue
- Larvitar
- Tailow
- Swellow
- Makuhita
- Hariyama
- Timburr
- Gurdurr
- Conkeldurr
