The best EXP farming & leveling spots can be found in dungeons for early-game players, and in Sharance Maze for late-game players.
You’ll want to head to these spots and grind battles to gain quick levels that will, in turn, increase your character’s stats.
But it should be noted that if you’re finding mobs to be too strong for you, upgrading your equipment will be more helpful compared to leveling up. This is done by improving your crafting and forging skills.
If increased stats is what you’re after, there are also other ways to get this through items, farming, and doing different tasks.
All of these things will be explained in our leveling guide here, so keep reading!
The Effects of Leveling Up
The reason you’ll want to increase your level in Rune Factory 4 is to increase your different stats. These stats and their functions are listed below:
Stat | Function |
---|---|
HP | Your maximum health. Increasing this will allow you to take more damage before fainting. |
RP | Your maximum rune points. Increasing this will allow you to perform more chores, skills, and spells before getting exhausted. |
ATK | Your attack. Increasing this will allow you to inflict more damage using non-magical weapons. |
DEF | Your defense. Increasing this will reduce the damage you’ll take from non-magical attacks. |
M.ATK | Your magic attack. Increasing this will allow you to inflict more damage using spells and staff-type weapons. |
M.DEF | Your magic defense. Increasing this will reduce the damage you’ll take from magical attacks. |
STR | Your strength. ATK increases by 1 for each point in this stat. |
VIT | Your vitality. DEF and M.DEF increase by 0.5 for each point in this stat. |
INT | Your intelligence. M.ATK increases by 1 for each point in this stat. |
As you level up your character, these stats will increase by a small amount. It will take several level increases to really notice a difference in your stats though – so let’s cover how to grind EXP and what equipment to use for quicker leveling.
Best Equipment for Quick Leveling
Before you head out to farm EXP, make sure you’re equipped with an appropriate accessory to speed up the process!
The accessories listed below will increase the amount of EXP you would normally gain.
Accessory | Effect | How to Obtain |

If you want the benefits of both items, you can fuse them together by upgrading one using the other via the Crafting Table.
Best Leveling Locations
As you hop from dungeon to dungeon in the game, you’ll notice that the sign at the entrance of each has a “Recommended Level” written on them.
Before going into one of these dungeons, it’s highly advised that you aim to be at a level that’s at least 10 levels higher than what’s recommended.
This will allow you to breeze through the dungeon if that’s what you’re after.
Early-Game EXP Farming
Generally, the best place to farm for EXP is the last dungeon you’ve cleared.
This will vary depending on where you are in the storyline.
You can pick any room in your most recently visited dungeon, clear the monsters in the room, exit the room, then re-enter to clear it again. Just make sure to avoid monsters that deal status effects!
Listed below are the different dungeons, their recommended levels, and the recommended farming spots for each dungeon.
Upcoming Dungeon | Recommended Level | Best Leveling Spot |
---|---|---|
Water Ruins | 10 | Yokmir Forest |
Obsidian Mansion | 18 | Water Ruins |
Yokmir Cave | 25 | Obsidian Mansion |
Delirium Lava Ruins | 30 | Yokmir Cave |
Leon Karnak | 40 | Delirium Lava Ruins |
Idra Cave | 45 | Leon Karnak |
Maya Road | 65 | Idra Cave |
Sechs Territory | 80 | Maya Road |
Floating Empire | 110 | Sechs Territory |
Note that if you’re skilled at dodging, you can try grinding for levels in the first area with mobs upon entering a new & tougher dungeon.
So maybe try both methods and then pick the one that’s easier for you.
Late-Game EXP Farming
By the time you get to the Delirium Lava Ruins, your character’s level has less impact compared to the strength of your equipment.
At this point you should focus more on leveling up your forging and crafting skills, if clearing stronger monsters is your goal.
Or if you’re just after the glories of being a high-leveled character, then you’ll want to unlock the Sharance Maze.
The Sharance Maze is unlockable after act 2, and you can order it via the order symbol.
The monsters here are extremely high-leveled, with the 1st section having monsters starting at Level 300. That makes this dungeon the ultimate EXP farm in the game.
Tip: How To Upgrade Equipment (Level Up Forging/Crafting)
The best way to stop your character from dying so often is to focus on leveling up your forging and crafting skills.
As you increase both of these skills and unlock new recipes from eating weapon and accessory recipe bread, you’ll be able to craft higher-leveled weapons and armor.
To level up your forging and crafting skills, you need to keep forging and crafting.
It sounds tedious, sure.
But there’s a trick to speed up grinding levels for these skills:
Use the upgrading feature on basic equipment to quickly become a master blacksmith!
You can do this in 3 simple steps:
- Mine a lot of Bronze and Iron.
- Craft a bunch of Broadswords for your forging skill, and Small Shields for your crafting skill.
- Upgrade each with iron until they reach level 10.
That’s it!
After a couple of levels, eat some weapon and accessory breads. You’ll be forging and crafting high-level equipment in no time.
You’ll even have some equipment you can sell for a small profit.
