FFXIV Amaurot: Unlock + Dungeon Boss Guide

Ancients fleeing the city of Amaurot in FFXIV

You can unlock the Level 80 dungeon Amaurot by accepting the Level 80 MSQ “Shadowbringers” from Alisaie in The Tempest (X:16.5, Y:30.4). This MSQ is the penultimate quest for patch 5.0 of the Shadowbringers expansion.

In this guide we’ll cover how to unlock the dungeon, along with a list of all boss mechanics and all of their loot as well.

Step-by-Step Unlock Guide

  1. Accept the Level 80 MSQ “Shadowbringers” from Alisaie in The Tempest (X:16.5, Y:30.4).
  2. Speak with Alphinaud and the rest of the scions.
  3. Talk to the Capitol Attendant in The Tempest (X:14.3, Y:35.3).

Detailed Unlocking Guide

“Shadowbringers” is the final MSQ for patch 5.0 of the Shadowbringers expansion. You’ll need to finish every MSQ leading up to it before it can be unlocked, including all the MSQs from previous expansions.

Once that’s all set, speak with Alisaie in The Tempest (X:16.5, Y:30.4) to begin “Shadowbringers”.

At this point in the main story, you and your fellow scions are preparing to confront Emet-Selch and save the Crystal Exarch.

You’ll need to talk to all of your fellow scions within the vicinity as they reflect on the journey so far and look forward to the battle ahead. After speaking with everyone, head to The Tempest (X:14.3, Y:35.3) and talk to the Capitol Attendant.

A long cutscene will trigger showing Emet-Selch explaining his plan to recreate Amaurot and the Final Days so he can preserve the memories of his fallen brethren.

After watching the cutscene, Amaurot will be unlocked. This dungeon requires at least a Level 80 Disciple of War or Magic and an average item level of 410 to enter.

Boss #1: The First Beast

Mechanics

  • Venomous Breath: A frontal cone AoE that applies a dispellable “Poison” DoT for 18 seconds.
  • Meteor Rain: Both DPS and the healer will receive massive proximity markers that will drop boulders from above. Drop your markers on one side of the arena, then move away to reduce incoming damage.
  • The Falling Sky: Large ground AoEs during “Meteor Rain.” Later in the fight, this mechanic will also drop smaller, consecutive AoEs throughout the arena.
  • The Final Sky: The boss will move to one side and use a strong room-wide AoE attack that applies a stacking “Suppuration” debuff for 120 seconds. Hide behind the “Meteor Rain” boulders to avoid.
  • Towerfall: The boss will cover 90% of the arena with an AoE that can instantly kill anyone that gets hit. Use “Sprint” to quickly reposition to the narrow safe zone on the other side.
  • Earthquake: A point-blank AoE that applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff for 60 seconds.

Mechanics

  • Shrill Shriek: A room-wide AoE attack that summons a wave of mobs.
  • Waves of Mobs: Multiple Terminus mobs will spawn and use generic AoEs that can be easily avoided. Group them up and burst them down to bring the boss back to the arena.
  • Burst: A slow-casting, instant-KO AoE. The boss will also constantly receive a stacking “Bloated” buff every few seconds that increases the damage it receives and the damage it takes. Kill the boss before this goes off, or you will wipe.

Boss #3: Therion

You can fall off the arena here, so watch your step – especially when standing in the small safe zones on the sides.

Mechanics

  • Shadow Wreck: A room-wide AoE attack that covers the area underneath the boss in fire. Standing in the fiery area will result in a 3-second “Doom” countdown that will instantly kill you. This can be dispelled if you move out of the affected area before the countdown reaches 0.
  • Apokalypsis: A massive continuous line attack that covers most of the arena apart from small safe spaces on the sides. Note that a glowing safe space will be destroyed by “Apokalypsis,” so don’t stand on those.
  • Therion Charge: A proximity marker in front of the boss. Once it goes off, the boss will jump on top of the marker, covering more area in fire and shrinking the safe zone.
  • Deathly Ray: The boss will target one player for a smaller version of the “Apokalypsis” line AoE.
  • Deathly Ray (Faces): Two sets of faces will appear on both sides of the arena that will also fire continuous line AoEs. One side will fire their line AoEs first, so dodge accordingly.
  • Misfortune: Targeted AoEs on random players that apply stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuffs for 60 seconds.
