The Lightburst is the second to last ability you can unlock in Spiritfarer. This ability emits a burst of light around Stella, useful for getting items or fighting shadow orcs in the game.

Unlike previous abilities, this is the only one unlocked via a request during your playthrough. The request is the “Demons of Light” quest from Buck.

Getting Lightburst

Recruiting Buck is an important part of unlocking the Lightburst Ability.

This is the only ability that’s unlocked via a request. The process before you start that request can be tricky, so here’s what you need to do.

First, you will need to unlock all of these abilities beforehand:

Once you have all of those abilities you’ll then need to follow along with some of Buck’s requests.

Part 1: Getting Buck

Once you have these abilities, head towards the island of Hikarishima Lighthouse (X: -137, Y: -14) and bounce on the parasol beside one of the relaxing spirits. This will let you reach the landing up top, and a short animation will play showing you the spirit Buck immediately joining your ship.

Part 2: Following Buck’s Requests

With Buck on the ship, you will need to follow his questline and complete these requests:

A Lair of Wonders
The Silver Company

After you finish these requests, you will get the “Demons of Light” mission, as well as the coordinates:

(X: -185, Y: -92)

Once on the Hidden Shrine island, you can find Buck and the Silver Company.

But before you can visit that island, make sure you have the Mist Cleaner 1000 Improvement from Albert’s Shipyard. This upgrade requires:

8 Silver Ores
22 Silk Fabrics
8 Bottled Ectoplasms
6 Crystal Glass Sheets
3 Spirit Flowers
3,000 Glims

Exchange two obols on the shrine to unlock the ability.

Part 3: The Lightburst Ability Shrine

Once you’re on the island, simply platform up towards the top of the island and interact with the shrine to exchange two Obols for the Lightburst ability.

To use the ability, simply press the right shoulder button to emit a burst of light around Stella. There’s a quick refresh window after you use it, indicated by the everlight in Stella’s chest to start glowing again.

Once you have the ability you can use this in the Shadow Steel Orcs event that Buck will introduce to you.

You can use the Lightburst ability on the Shadow Steel Orcs event.
