Training Wheels is one of the lengthier side quests you will encounter while playing Spiritfarer. But it’s also the only Shenanigan side-quest that gives you access to a new island as a reward.
Getting Started
Let’s start with the necessary boat upgrade: the Icebreaker Boat Improvement.
In case you don’t have it yet, head on over to Albert’s Shipyard (X: 61, Y: 64) and purchase it. The upgrade itself requires these materials:
- 10 Iron Ingots
- 12 Oak Planks
- 18 Linen Fabrics
- 1 Spirit Flower
- 5 Slates
- 800 Glims
You can also check out our guide to all boat improvements for a more thorough detailed list of how to get all the required items.
With the upgrade equipped, sail north towards the island of Kalstein Mines, found at (X: -99, Y: 117).
Once you’re on the island, you’ll find that the door to enter the mines is locked. You will also find a short blue security guard spirit, who will give you the shenanigan side quest.
“Training Wheels” Walkthrough
Talk to the security guard spirit and he will tell you that access to the mines is exclusive to a private club.
He will also tell you that if you want to be a member of the club, you will need to unlock these skills:
In order to unlock these skills, you will need to exchange two obols at different ability shrines found on various islands.
Obols themselves are items given to you by spirits who ride on your boat. The ability shrines for each skill you need are listed below:
- The Double Jump Ability Shrine is found in the middle of Hummingberg (X: 39, Y: 139)
- The Glide Ability Shrine is found in the island of Furogawa (X: -150, Y: 67)
- The Zipline Ability Shrine is found at the top of Nordweiler (X: -3, Y: 185)
Note: Keep in mind that getting these abilities is a lengthy process, and you’ll need to progress the game’s main storyline to unlock a couple of them.
With all 3 abilities unlocked, simply head back to Kalstein Mines and talk to the security guard.
He will then welcome you to the club and give you the key to unlock the door, ending the side quest.
Inside Kalstein Mines
When you go inside the Kalstein Mines you’ll find that they’re filled with treasure chests and resources that you can farm for glims.
This location is also one of the earliest places to get diamonds.
