Before anything, you need to first find Atul. He’s the second spirit you’ll ever encounter in the game, and you can easily find him at Barkensheim Creek (X: 5, Y: 117). There, visit Francis’ Wandering Shop and buy some empty bottles. These are available for 20 Glims apiece.

Once Atul is on the ship, he will introduce you to the Thunderstorms Event, marked by a stormy rain cloud on the World Map.

During this event, you will need to jump around and “catch” the lightning with your empty bottles. The more empty bottles you have, the more lightning in a bottle you’ll get.

Note: Later in the game, you’ll also encounter the Severe Thunderstorms event, which is the same event but just harder. This also rewards you with lightnings in a bottle.
