Stanley is the only child spirit that will be joining Stella’s ship. He’s also the only spirit that you can’t pick up to recruit from any of the islands.
To make sure you succeed in recruiting him, this guide will walk you through a complete step-by-step of how to find him and how to complete his entire quest line.
We will also include his interests, mood factors, and characteristics.
How To Get Stanley
As mentioned above, Stanley is the only spirit that you can’t find on any of the islands.
Here’s how to recruit him:
Step 1: Send a total of four spirits to the Everdoor. This might take some time so just keep working through the game.
Step 2: Once that’s achieved, you will need to fish for a Mysterious Seed with a Mushroom icon (pictured above).
Take note that there’s no specific place where you need to fish, and catching the seed itself is completely random.
Note: For players who are having difficulty in catching the seed, you can also try looking for it in Francis the Wandering Merchant’s shop.
Step 3: Once you have it, plant the seed in your garden and wait for it to grow. Then when it’s time to pull it out, the spirit Stanley will come out from the ground and give you an Obol.
He will then run away to your Cabin after.
Talk to him there, and he’ll then decide to lock himself in the Guest House. This begins his quest line.
Stanley’s Complete Quest Line
Big Boy’s Room (1)
After he moves to the Guest Room, Stanley will eventually lock it and declare that it’s now his room.
He will then tell you that he’s busy building something inside, and will ask for some linen fabric from you.
If you don’t have linen fabric, then simply plant linen seeds to harvest linen fiber. Then run them through the Loom to get linen thread, before running them again to finally get linen fabric.
After that, hand the linen fabric to him to end this part of the request.
Note: Remember that since Stanley will take over the Guest Room, you will need to build a new one on your ship.
Big Boy’s Room (2)
Next up, Stanley wants to decorate the room. So simply hand him any item in your inventory under the ‘Tchotchke’ category to end the request.
He will then tell you all about this pet beetle Jacob before ending this part of the request.
Unnamed Dust Shades Request
With the room now ready, Stanley will ask you to come inside.
There, you’ll find his pet beetle Jason, who will help you catch some dust shades that Stanley doesn’t like.
This starts the Dust Shades minigame, where you will have to run around the ship and touch the dust shades that are moving around.
Do note that this game can be tricky, but using Stella’s abilities like Bounce and Dash can significantly help you.
This event is also the only instance where you can collect Bottled Ectoplasm in the game. But if you need some help just check out our Dust Shades event guide for more information.
The request will end once the minigame is over.
Dr. Splash Strange Experiments
For his next request, Stanley will tell you he’s bored – and he will ask you to “melt” an old shoe in the Foundry.
You can always buy this in Francis’ Floating Shop for about 8 Glims.
So get it and then melting it in the Foundry to get glue, which you’ll need to hand to Stanley after.
After this, Stanley will give you more “experiments” to do.
Here’s exactly what you’ll need to do for each experiment:
- Crush three uncommon items at the Crusher
- Thread three uncommon items at the Loom
- Smelt three uncommon items at the Foundry
Note that each of these three items can be all the same item, done at the same time. This will help you complete this request quickly if you’re in a hurry.
Simply talk to Stanley once you’re done to end the request.
Junior Architectural Designer
Immediately after the previous request, Stanley will tell you that he’s jealous about the houses of others, and wants to make blueprints.
He’ll then ask for some paper, unlocking the recipe for this quest item.
To make homemade paper, simply combine these in the kitchen:
- Glue (made from smelting the Old Shoe in the Foundry)
- Sawdust (acquired by cutting logs in the Sawmill)
Then hand him the paper to end the request.
Not long after the last request, Stanley will talk to you and ask for a “fakinhage”. This is a type of food that (according to him) is available in everyone’s houses.
This just means that Stanley wants an egg, and you can easily buy one from the Oxbury Raccoon Shop at X: 233, Y: 18 for 440 Glims.
Give him the egg to end the request.
After the egg quest, Stanley will tell you that he’s bored again and wants some explosions. For this, you will need to build the Cellar.
To start, head on over to Albert’s Shipyard and purchase the Master Blueprint Station. This upgrade requires:
- 10 Silica Powder
- 10 Zinc Ingots
- 2,800 Glims
For a more detailed breakdown of where to get each item you can head to our Blueprint Station Guide.
Next, head back to your ship and build the Cellar.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 20 Linen Fabrics
- 3 Comet Rocks
- 10 Bottled Ectoplasms
Once the Cellar is built, Stanley will find it boring.
However, you will still need to ferment one thing inside (simply place an item inside one of the compartments for an extended period) and talk to him after to end the request.
A Play in One Act
For this request, Stanley wants to do a play.
So he’ll ask you to invite some friends to it.
For this part, simply talk to each spirit then get back to Stanley. You can also choose how many spirits you want to talk to and invite.
After inviting some spirits, head back to Oxbury. Once there, a cutscene with Stanley will play.
Simply select ‘yes’ to begin the play, and you’ll be back on the ship once it’s done.
Talk to Stanley in the front of the shop to end the request.
The Reviews Are In!
The morning after, Stanley will want to know if people enjoyed his play.
Again, talk to everyone and get back to Stanley.
Unfortunately, he’ll notice that the play itself wasn’t a very good one. So he’ll ask for some time off. This ends the request.
Just a couple of days after his play, Stanley will talk to you and finally ask to be taken to the Everdoor.
So head to the middle of the map and take Stanley to the door, where an animation of Stella rowing the dinghy will play.
If Stanley is the fifth or ninth spirit you take to the Everdoor, you will meet Hades again in a platforming minigame.
Otherwise, you’ll be back on the ship to collect the Spirit Flower from his playroom, as well as an Obol.
In his life, Stanley was the youngest patient that Stella had to ever take care of when she was still a nurse.
Since he’s only 8, Stanley is very childish, and loves to play around and get hugs.
In his base mood, he will give you Tchotchke items, while he will hand you drawings when he’s happy.
His food preferences are:
- Favorite food: French Fries
- Likes: Breakfast food, Dessert food
- Dislikes: Stimulant good, or anything with fruit or vegetables
Other than that, Stanley will also introduce you to the Dust Shades event through his ghost beetle, Jason.
In this minigame, you will have to run around the ship trying to catch the dust shades in order to get bottled ectoplasm.
